The California State Lottery, also known as the California Lottery, began on November 6, 1984, after California voters passed Proposition 37, the California State Lottery Act of 1984, authorizing the creation of a lottery. The first tickets were purchased on October 3, 1985.

The Sacramento Music Festival is an annual music & cultural festival that happens over the Memorial Day Weekend in Old Sacramento, California. The event is produced by the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society and began in 1974 as the Old Sacramento Dixieland Jazz Jubilee. In addition to classic jazz and swing, the event has evolved to include other styles of music such as blues, cajun, zydeco, Latin, rock and soul. Over the four day event, the Sacramento Music Festival attracts 30-40,000 people to this historical area along the Sacramento River in the state's capital The festival is the primary fundraiser for the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit, and helps support their Jazz Education Programs, scholarships and awards.
