The company is as a 50–50 partnership between Robert "Rob" Kauffman, the 44-year-old founder and managing partner of Fortress Investment Group, and Michael Waltrip, who first established the team in 1996. The team was the first full-time three-car team to field Toyota Camrys when Toyota entered Sprint Cup racing in 2007, and is now one of two three-car teams under the Toyota banner , while occasionally fielding a four-car lineup.
