New England Science and Sailing (NESS) is an accredited educational nonprofit that utilizes water-based platforms such as sailing, fishing, surfing, marine science and others to teach STEM largely to inner-city students. In doing so, we not only increase their academic achievement, but importantly help them gain skills for success in life. These skills include teamwork, perseverance, self-confidence, self-control, and leadership. Research by Cambridge based Goodman Research Associates support that students to take our programs are 9 times more likely to have positive changes in self-confidence than those who do not. NESS served 9,000 students partnering with 70 schools and organizations. Given our focus on working with underserved youth, 50% of our students receive some form of financial aid to participate in our programing.
