Agency Complains Patrick Dempsey Owes Sponsorship Money

Ad agency, E-image, has filed a federal complaint claiming that Grey's Anatomy star, Patrick Dempsey, owes it royalties from a negotiated sponsorship on behalf of his car racing endeavor, Team Dempsey.

The complaint notes that the agency negotiated his team's sponsorship with El Grado Tequila, which it claims agreed to pay "a lump sum payment in the amount of $3,000,000 or 3%, whichever is greater, upon the sale of El Grado," as well as a "monthly retainer of $4,000 for six months from the date of the contract. A monthly retainer of $2,000 for the life of the contract was also agreed to in order to establish and maintain El Grado's Web presence and online marketing and viral campaigns," according to published reports from Courthouse News on the complaint. The complaint says that Dempsey Racing agreed to pay E-Image 12% of royalties from its agreement with El Grado, and 12% of any other money the agency raised on Dempsey Racing's behalf.

E-Image Agency, which it says represented Dempsey Racing exclusively, does not say in the complaint how much it feels it is owed, but says Dempsey Racing has paid less than $20,000 to date.
