Aston Martin Signs First Pro Soccer Sponsorship in Company History
German football club, TSV 1860 München, has signed British luxury sports car manufacturer Aston Martin as its new main sponsor. For the nearly 100 year old brand, the deal marks the first foray into sponsoring professional soccer. Though terms were not released, the team was already sporting the Aston Martin logo at their match against FSV Frankfurt this past weekend.
“Today, Aston Martin enjoys a strong financial foundation. This has put us in a position to engage in activities that had previously not been part of our core strategies," Dr. Ulrich Bez, Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin, said. "The commitment will increase the brand visibility of Aston Martin in Germany, one of our most important markets.”
Earlier this year, the club, which was strapped with debt, was rescued from insolvency by Hasan Ismaik, who purchased a 60 percent interest in the team and is now chairman of the club's supervisory board.
"I am very pleased with the partnership as it shows that Aston Martin, a premium brand with a long history and great tradition, recognises 1860's great potential. Together, we will lead the club to success," Ismaik said.
TSV 1860 München or 1860 Munich, plays in the Second Bundesliga, after relegation from the Bundesliga following the 2003–04 season. The club was one of the founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963 and has played a total of 20 seasons in the top flight.
“The German Bundesliga is one of the most renowned and professionally organised football leagues in the world,” Dr. Bez added. “TSV 1860 München is therefore an exciting partner for us. Like Aston Martin, the club has a charismatic nature. Both brands are authentic and evocative, earning them a great deal of loyalty from their fans. Since the involvement of the new shareholder, we believe the club has excellent prospects for financial stability and sporting success in the future. We look forward to joining them on this path.”
