Bad Break for Best Buy?

Less than one day after word circulated that Best Buy is expected to sponsor the NASCAR Sprint Cup car #43, its driver A.J. Allmendinger has been charged with a DUI according to AP reports.

Best Buy sponsored Elliott Sadler's #19 car this year, and is expected to move to the #43, while Sadler's car will be sponsored by Stanley Tools.

Yesterday Nascar.com wrote "by moving Best Buy to the No. 43, the team now has the far less difficult task of selling some individual races for Allmendinger and Sadler, as opposed to the daunting task of trying to secure a primary sponsor willing to spend $15 million or more to back Allmendinger."

This likely won't help sponsorship matters.

"It was a bad judgment call and I apologize for that ... To my fans, sponsors, team and NASCAR," Allmendinger said. "If anything good can come of this then hopefully I can be an example of being more aware of drinking responsibly and even if you feel fine, take a cab, call a friend ... just don't risk it. I will do my best to make it right and use this to learn myself and hopefully educate others."

How, if at all, this will affect Best Buy's new reported sponsorship remains to be seen.
