Beer Sponsors Place Big Bet On NLDS
MillerCoors is a literally a company divided for baseball's National League Division Series. Created from the 2008 joint venture of SABMiller and Molson Coors, Miller owns the naming rights to the Milwaukee Brewers' ballpark, Miller Park, while Coors sponsors Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies. With the two teams facing off for a trip to the National League Championship Series, the sponsors have engaged in a friendly intercompany wager.
On Friday, Octobter 12, fans of the winning team will be able to get a free beer at participating bars across the winning city. The losing team’s hometown brewery will pick up the tab!
“While Miller Brewing and Coors Brewing work together to provide great beer to fans everywhere, there’s nothing wrong with a friendly rivalry, especially when the fans are the true winners,” says Adam Dettman, director of brand experience for MillerCoors.
This is the first time that two playoff teams with the same naming partner have faced off since the 2011 NBA Finals, which featured the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat, which share American Airlines as a naming rights partner.
