Boosted by Big Events, Euro Sponsorship Rises 14%

Aided by the Olympics and the Euro Championships, sponsorship spending grew by an estimated 14% in 2011, according to figures released today from the European Sponsorship Association (ESA). The ESA estimates that the 2011 value of the European sponsorship market is €26.5 billion - a 14% increase on 2010’s total of €23.3 billion.

The uplift year on year was not across all markets with downturns reported due to macro economic conditions in countries like Greece, for example.

Overall though, the ESA says to expect continued growth in the European market "as the full effect of hosting London 2012 and the UEFA European Football Championship is seen and with Sochi due to host the Olympic Winter Games in 2014."

The ESA’s figures cover all forms of sponsorship, but do not account for the cost of activation.
