Bummer! British Sprinter's £30K eBay Sponsorship May Have Been A Hoax

A story that we covered here, it seems may have all been a hoax. British sprinter, James Ellington, had raised £32,500 via an eBay auction in December and was set to use the funds to train ahead of the Olympic Games. In exchange, Ellington had promised to wear the sponsor’s branded kit at every possible opportunity where appropriate, including at training and press events, until after the 2012 Games.

Now it appears that Ellington may have been the victim of a bad bid. According to The Telegraph:

"..since the auction closed on Dec 17, the winning bidder has failed to come forward and attempts by eBay to track the individual down have proved fruitless. A spokeswoman for the website admitted that the bidder doesn’t appear to be bona fide."
