Chicago Mayoral Candidates Agree On One Thing: No Name Change For Soldier Field

The Windy City will elect a new mayor in less than two weeks, and while the candidates may not agree on everything, each mayoral hopeful says that they would like to see Soldier Field, which opened in 1924, remain naming rights-less. The Chicago Sun-Times says that three of the top mayoral candidates would not consider a name change in any way, while only one would be willing to explore the subject if it included the name ‘‘Soldier Field.’'

A spokeswoman for candidate Gery Chico told the Sun-Times that the mayoral hopeful "would be open to exploring creative ideas that could attract sponsors while preserving the Soldier Field name and stadium to give soldiers the respect they deserve."
