Coming To A Bus Stop Near You: Ads!

That will be the case in New Jersey if Assemblywoman Connie Wagner and Assemblyman Scott Rudder get their way. A-1637, which passed the Assembly 75-0 on Sept. 30, and awaits action in the state Senate, will allow school districts to monetize school buses with advertisements. Under the bill, all advertisements would have to be pre-approved by the school district with tobacco, alcohol products or political advocacy ads expressly prohibited. In an open letter entitled "School buses can use a word from sponsor," the co-authors of the bill say that "schools stand potentially to generate as much as $1,000 per bus."
