Demolition Sponsorship for Texas Stadium?
One stadium that didn't get naming rights dollars on its way up, may get them on its way down. The Dallas Morning News reports that the Irving Convention and Visitor Bureau has gained city approval to negotiate sponsorship of Texas Stadium's demolition next Spring.
From The Dallas Morning News:
"A major food company wants to sponsor the event and turn the right to push the detonator into a nationwide contest. But the company doesn't want the world to know who it is unless a deal is struck."
Since the Dallas Cowboys organization retains full rights to the stadium name, Maura Gast of the ICVB must work out approval from team officials before the promotion is negotiated with the sponsor, who is being confidentially represented by Hunter Public Relations.
Hunter's clients include Kraft Foods, Diageo, E&J Gallo, Kellog's, 3M and Wrigley Company.
According to the report, the "city plans to invite just about any and everyone who has ever been associated with the stadium," to the implosion which is slated for late February or early March.
"There's not much of a good guidebook on media and marketing management of iconic stadium implosions for dummies," Gast told The Dallas Morning News. "I've looked."
