Did $30K Bribe Help Nike Win Sponsorship?

That's what recent media reports indicate. A Nike China marketing executive is again coming under scrutiny for allegedly providing a $30,000 bribe that according to reports may have helped Nike secure title sponsorship of the Chinese Super League. The investigation stems from charges against a former Chinese Football Association chief, Xie Yalong, who allegedly accepted over 1.7 million yuan in bribes.

In response to the recent reports that Nike marketing executive, Li Tong, may have contributed to the nearly $273,000 in bribes that Yalong allegedly accepted, the company issued the following statement to the Oregonian:

"Nike has not been contacted by the authorities in China in relation to the Chinese Super League. We take the allegations reported in the media very seriously. Nike believes in ethical and fair play in both business and sport, and strongly opposes any form of manipulation or bribery."
