Dow Agrees To Drop Logo From Olympic Stadium
After months of protests regarding its role in the Bhopal disaster, Dow Chemical has agreed to remove all its branding from Britain’s Olympic stadium according to reports. Dow set off protests in August when it announced that it would sponsor the wrap around the Olympic stadium, leading the Indian Olympic Association to strongly urge LOCOG to end its partnership with the company.
The Michigan-based chemical company said it was agreeing to the “vision” of the 2012 Games by backing away from a £7 million deal that would have allowed it to sponsor a fabric wrap surrounding the Olympic stadium.
“We are not happy with the move and will continue to press for total removal of Dow Chemical as a sponsor of the London Olympics,” V.K. Malhotra, acting president of the Indian Olympic Association told India Real Time.
Dow's deal with the IOC will still provide it with TOP sponsor status through the 2020 Olympic Games.
