Facebook Teams Up With NFL For 'Sponsorship Test'
Don't be surprised if you get a lot more football in your Facebook newsfeed this holiday season. That's because the world's largest social network has signed a pact with the National Football League that will see sponsored game highlights promoted within the Facebook newsfeed. Facebook and the NFL will share ad/sponsorship revenue from content, which in addition to video clips may include NFL news and fantasy updates.
"This is a small video sponsorship test," a Facebook spokesperson tells the Wall Street Journal, though Re/code reports that the world's largest social network is deep in discussions with the National Basketball Association for a similar pact.
Initially, Facebook's NFL updates will be presented by NFL sponsor, Verizon, with other brands likely to come on board in the future.
