Fiscal Conservative?
Texas Governor Rick Perry announced today that his campaign for re-election will sponsor Bobby Labonte's car for the April 18th NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the Texas Motor Speedway.
The hood of Labonte's car this weekend will read “Governor Perry” while the doors will feature decals saying “RickPerry.org” and “Perry Governor 2010” will be featured on the back of the car.
Like any good sponsor, the Perry campaign is tying the sponsorship's goals to a "unique" call to action. The goal: raise money for the November campaign. Perry's donation page reads:
"Your generous donation of $71 will help keep Texas in the lead as Bobby races towards the checkered flag and Gov. Perry accelerates to reelection in November. Donors at this level (or above) receive the Labonte/Perry commemorative "Hero Card" to mark the occasion of the event."
Perry isn't the first politician to sponsor a NASCAR entry for his campaign, but he's likely the largest political figure to date to do so.
Labonte is currently 31st in the Sprint Cup standings. Perry will be looking for a better finish next November when he takes on Democratic candidate Bill White. The Perry campaign said it paid $225,000 for the Labonte sponsorship.
