Mavs Get New Banking Partner

BBVA Compass, already the official bank of the NBA, has signed an agreement to become an official partner of the Dallas Mavericks. The bank says it has 110 banking centers in the Metroplex and is currently the fourth largest bank in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metropolitan area based on deposit market share. Terms of the deal were not released.


BBVA Compass is the U.S. subsidiary of Madrid-based, BBVA Group, which maintains operations in more than 30 countries. In October 2010, BBVA signed a multi-year marketing partnership whereby it is the Official Bank of the NBA, the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), and the NBA Development League (NBA D-League) in the United States, Spain and Puerto Rico.

"We are very pleased to be partnering with the Dallas Mavericks, an organization that epitomizes innovation, provides its fans with a customer-friendly experience and is committed to improving the local communities around the Metroplex," said BBVA U.S. Country Manager and President and CEO of BBVA Compass Manolo Sanchez. Our goal is to recreate that success by providing our customers with a championship caliber banking team that meets all of their financial needs."

BBVA Compass plans to kick off the partnership when their 30-stop grassroots tour visits the Metroplex next month. The BBVA Compass NBA "Team. Works. on Tour(SM) is visiting nine markets over the course of two months with a 53-foot, 18-wheel truck that transforms into 6,000 square feet of basketball activities.

"Grassroots events and community programs are an integral part of how we and our partners connect with NBA fans locally," said Mark Tatum, NBA Executive Vice President, Global Marketing Partnerships. "The BBVA Compass NBA 'Team. Works. on Tour' program and the accompanying community events will help celebrate our partnership with BBVA and create a strong connection between BBVA Compass and fans across the Sunbelt centered around the game of basketball."
