MetroPCS Buys Naming Rights To Detroit Train Station

MetroPCS, the Texas-based wireless network which is increasingly using sponsorship to promote its expanded footprint, has agreed to a one-year, $10,000-a-month ($120,000 annual) contract to rename the Detroit's People Mover’s Greektown Station to "MetroPCS Greektown Station." While the deal has been rumored for some time, the official announcement will come later today.

“Advertising has proven to be a visible and significant means of generating a portion of revenues,” said Barbara Hansen, Detroit Transportation Corporation General Manager.

Officials hope to sell naming rights to each of the 13 People Mover stops in downtown Detroit.
