Microsoft App Diagrams The Viral Distribution Of A New Album

Indie rock band, The xx, has found an interesting way to track the way their new album (releasing today) is shared. Teaming up with Microsoft, the band has launched an app that tracks in real-time how their music is shared throughout the world over time.

"As with each project we undertake, this is yet another opportunity to step back and rethink what’s possible on the web," Microsoft Marketing Manager, Steve Lake said. "With The xx, it was about blending music, art, and technology - creating beauty in simplicity. When you land on the page, you’ll notice an incredible visualization of how the album Coexist was shared from just a single person. By using your mouse (or finger) to move the time slider up and down on the right of the map, you can interact with the visualization to see how the experience was shared over time."
