Murdoch Papers May Lose Official Sponsorship of Team 2012

In the wake of the phone hacking scandal, Rupert Murdoch's newspapers may lose their designation as "Official Newspaper of Team 2012." Team 2012, with its presenting partner Visa Europe, said in a statement that "as a result of the closure of News of the World the contract can no longer be fulfilled as originally envisaged." If the deal is revoked, it would take away rights that have been granted to The Sun, News of the World, The Times and The Sunday Times to carry the title of "Official Newspaper of Team 2012."

Team 2012 is the official support program for British athletes representing Team GB and ParalympicsGB in London 2012. The program helps to raise funds to support 1,200 athletes who are in training to be selected for the Olympic and Paralympic Teams which will represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the London 2012 Games.

According to the Guardian, Team 2012 is now looking for potential new media partners.
