Naming Rights Sponsor Activates By Letting Fans Choose Stadium Name
One English football sponsor isn't wasting any time in activating its naming rights deal with English club, Shrewsbury Town F.C.
Under the terms of a new three-year sponsorship with car dealer, Greenhous, and first reported by the Shropshire Star, Shrewsbury Town Football Club will rename its home field to one of four options, as chosen by the team's fans.
Whether the team's home is called Greenhous Stadium, Park, Coliseum or Arena will be up to an online vote, with one random voter awarded the opportunity to participate in the official naming ceremony at the club's first home game. Fans can vote via a poll already up on the company's website.
Unfortunately, given such a staid selection of choices, there's no write-in option. Nevertheless, Greenhous' GM sees the promotion as a way to engage with fans from day one of the deal.
“We are passionate about the future of professional football in Shropshire, we really want to get as many fans and customers involved with our sponsorship as possible, so at the start of next season we’ll be announcing a series of new initiatives to give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate,” Dave Sullivan, director general manager of Greenhous, said.
The club moved to the their new stadium, which was previously called Prostar Stadium, at the beginning of the 2007-08 season.
