NBA Approves Jersey Sponsorship Starting in '17-18

Huuuuuuge news from the NBA this morning as the league has become the first of the "big 3" leagues in North America to approve the placement of advertisements on regular season game jerseys. The 2.5-by-2.5-inch patches will debut in the '17-18 NBA season with some teams already projecting that the 2.5 x 2.5 patch will bring in $4-5 million in additional sponsorship revenue. Across the league, the ads are expected to generate about $150 million in revenue with teams keeping half of the new revenue stream with the the other half being put into a revenue-sharing pool. "Jersey sponsorships provide deeper engagement with partners looking to build a unique association with our teams and the additional investment will help grow the game in exciting new ways," said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. "We're always thinking about innovative ways the NBA can remain competitive in a global marketplace, and we are excited to see the results of this three-year trial."
