NYC Marathon On The Hunt For New Title Partner
It's been a rough year for the running community and the northeast in general. After getting cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy, the New York City Marathon is in search of a new title sponsorship deal after ING revealed to SportsBusiness Journal that it would not renew the title sponsorship it has held since 2003.
The move is not unexpected as ING recently reorganized its banking and insurance operations. According to SBJ, New York Road Runners is in talks with several companies about title sponsorship and is also looking to secure five "Founding Partner" sponsorships.
About 48,000 runners line up for the New York Marathon each November, making it the biggest marathon in the world.
SP take: given the resiliency shown by the running community, this could make a great comeback story for the right company.
