Outside the Box Activation Ideas: Pepsi-Co(pter)

Plane activation is nothing new, but have you ever seen a sponsored chopper? We got a note about LA's KIIS-FM traffic reporter Commander Chuck and his Pepsi-sponsored chopper. Here's a look:

As it turns out, this isn't the first use of helicopters as out-of-home media. In late 2007, the recently shuttered Portfolio Magazine sponsored helicopters to reach ultra-elite manhattanites on their way out to the hamptons. The company behind that deal, and many other airplane advertising endeavors, is Interair Media.

Other PepsiCo brands such as Mountain Dew and Code Red have also gotten in on the action via Commander Chuck.

This got us to thinking, what other forms of transportation, from both the public and private sectors, could be leveraged as consumer media assets? In recent months, we've seen a turnpike sponsorship and a subway naming rights deal. If public transportation is fair game for monetization, what's up next?

Whether you agree or disagree, the creative juices are flowing, courtesy of shrinking city budgets.
