PacificSource Health Plans to Present Oregon-Oregon State "Civil War" Series
PacificSource Health Plans, in conjunction with Beaver Sports Properties and the Oregon Sports Network, has reached an agreement with Oregon State University and the University of Oregon to serve as a presenting partner for the schools' Civil War series, according to a joint announcement by both schools' directors of athletics earlier today.
In a release, the parties indicated that the marketing pact is intended to increase the regional exposure for the intrastate rivalry, as well as generate additional revenue for the two athletic departments. The agreement is a five year deal, extending through the 2014-2015 academic year, and is expected to generate in excess of $1 million per school, officials said.
PacificSource will use the Civil War sponsorship to promote a major public wellness initiative aimed at improving the overall health of Oregonians. Through the initiative, PacificSource will also provide funding to both universities' campus wellness initiatives to assist the schools in meeting their health improvement goals.
"We've been involved with both universities for many years, and now look forward to using the Civil War series to engage the public in health improvement initiatives," PacificSource President and Chief Executive Officer Ken Provencher said. "The longstanding Civil War tradition represents a passionate rivalry for many in our state and we hope to leverage that passion and sense of competition to engage Oregonians in the HealthyLife Challenge."
PacificSource fills the void in the Civil War series partnership that was created after the Northwest Dodge Dealers ended its sponsorship following a 10-year engagement. The enhanced partnership provides PacificSource an integrated marketing approach with both universities that includes multi-media assets, signage, product promotions, internet, print and endorsements. The annual competitions between the two schools will now be named the Civil War presented by PacificSource Health Plans, and include 10 men's and women's sports.
