Paperless Tickets Could Mean More Green For Fans, Teams & Partners

Getting your free taco with a greasy used ticket stub may thankfully be a thing of the past if new membership card technology gets more widely adopted. Among other properties testing various forms of digital ticketing, the Seattle Sounders Football Club this past week launched a new paperless ticketing program that will give season ticket-holders the opportunity to choose a season-long membership card instead of the traditional ticket book.

Not only will the card be used for game admittance, the club recently laid out some of the other possible applications:

"As this (rave) green technology advances, you will soon be able to purchase your favorite jersey at the Pro Shop, pay for concessions throughout CenturyLink Field and take advantage of exclusive card member-only offers and rewards at a variety of outlets."

While there will no doubt be some fans that are not yet ready to abandon their physical tickets, the widespread adoption of membership cards could pave the way for a more flexible, reliable and trackable way to launch timely and targeted promotional offers. And maybe, fans like this won't have to come down from the high of winning a free taco only to ultimately find they've lost their ticket stub.
