Report: Man U Almost Skipped A Match Because of Coca-Cola Signage
In what may be a sponsorship marketer's worst nightmare, the world's most famous football team almost skipped a date with 80,000 australian fans over a sponsorship dispute. The dispute came before a recent game in Sydney with the Australia's A-League All Stars. ANZ Stadium officials say that Manchester United, which recently signed a sponsorship deal with Pepsi, refused to take the field until Coke signs were removed from the stadium's jumbo screens.
Just 20 minutes until kick-off, Fox Sports reports that Manchester United and stadium officials came to an agreement that saw the Coca-Cola signage replaced by Coca-Cola subsidiary Mountain Franklin water.
Do you think stadium officials made the right call?
