StubHub Closes MLB Renewal, Three Clubs Pass On Deal

StubHub and MLB Advanced Media, the interactive media and internet company of Major League Baseball, have reached a five-year renewal agreement whereby StubHub will continue to serve as the Official Fan to Fan Ticket Marketplace for MLB.com.

This renewal continues the original 2007 integration of a secondary ticketing provider and a major professional sports entity. The new agreement will continue to allow StubHub to serve as the online destination for fans to resell and purchase tickets safely, while being designated the Official Secondary Ticket Marketplace of MLB.com and the participating Major League Baseball clubs. Three MLB clubs, the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels and Chicago Cubs opted out of the deal and are reportedly exploring other options in the secondary ticket market.

"This partnership broke new ground when it was first introduced, and it has allowed us to greatly improve the StubHub MLB fan experience," said Chris Tsakalakis, President of StubHub. "The opportunity for StubHub to continue to partner with MLBAM is something we relish, especially as we look to continuously integrate new technology that will enhance the experience, particularly on mobile devices, for baseball fans."

The renewal reflects the success that MLBAM and StubHub have had over the past five years in what Bob Bowman of MLBAM called "an ever-evolving space."
