Team Demands $ From Grocery Chain in Sponsorship Triangle
The only thing is, for the AHL's Syracuse Crunch, it is not Penn Trafffic's sponsorship money the team is seeking in bankruptcy proceedings. Rather it seems the team is seeking the money it is owed from the rest of the team's partners. In court papers filed today, the Crunch claim that the grocery chain was scheduled to pay the team on behalf of sponsors such as Nestle, Dole, Unilever, Clorox and Conagra in the amount which it would then deduct from the bills the grocery chain would normally pay these companies for selling their inventory.
Now Penn Traffic is in bankruptcy and it appears that even though the grocery chain has taken credits against its supplier bills, the $85k it owes the team hasn't been paid and is being pushed to the bottom of the creditor pile.
