The Next Frontier For Gaming: Your Living Room Walls

In a push to make gaming a lot more immersive, Microsoft used this past week's CES conference to debut a proof-of-concept project called IllumiRoom, which integrates projected visualizations into the gaming experience. The effects in the sample video below are rendered in real time and are captured live -- not special effects added in post processing.

IllumiRoom uses a Kinect for Windows camera and a projector to blur the lines between on-screen content and real-world environments. As you can see from the video, the system can change the appearance of the room, induce apparent motion, extend the field of view, and enable entirely new game experiences.

If you're an entertainment marketer, this is definitely something worth keeping an eye on.
