W. Va Looks to Lure Businesses with $750K Sponsorship Spend
Amid some of the world's best golfers, a majestic resort and the Black Eyed Peas, the state of West Virginia will be looking to woo business magnates from around the country at this week's second annual Greenbrier Classic. State officials will spend $500K on sponsorship, plus a $250K media buy, to promote the state's business potential at the PGA Tour event being held in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. It's the first national media buy for the state's Development Office, according to the The Charleston Gazette.
"The Greenbrier Classic is a perfect match to the demographic we're trying to reach: CEOs," West Virginia's Commerce Secretary Keith Burdette said.
The sponsorship comes out of the state's $2 million to $3 million promotional account, which is funded from lottery profits, the paper points out.
"It's a place where you can entertain folks on the 18th green," he said. "We want them to come here and have a good time in West Virginia, and give them a different perspective of West Virginia."
