YouTube Launches Merch Store For Music Marketing

YouTube has over 800 million users and now it's taking a big step to helping musicians monetize their fan bases on the world's largest video platform. Today it announced the launch of its Merch store to help artists sell merchandise, tickets and more around their video content. It has partnered with Topspin for merchandise, concert tickets and experiences; Songkick for concerts; and iTunes and Amazon for music downloads. YouTube says it will be rolling out the Merch Store to music partners globally over the coming weeks. A preview of the Merch store below for indie brand, Pomplamoose....

While we've seen some artists include partner messaging on their YouTube channels via video and display ads, it seems that the Merch store may offer artist partners more opportunities not only to start a discussion with fan bases on YouTube, but also engage them beyond the video portal through distribution of co-branded premiums, unique experiences, premium content, offers and more. It will be interesting to see how marketers use the Merch store.
