The International Basketball Federation, more commonly known as FIBA , from its French name Fédération Internationale de Basketball, is an association of national organizations which governs international competition in basketball. Originally known as the Fédération Internationale de Basketball Amateur , in 1989 it dropped the word Amateur from its official name but retained the initialism, the "BA" now representing the first two letters of basketball.
Home appliance brand Beko has agreed a global partnership with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) until 2014. The deal will see Beko, a subsidiary of Turkish durables and electronics company Arçelik, become the presenting sponsor of this summer’s EuroBasket in Slovenia as well as the inaugural FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain in 2014.
