Gatorade is a brand of sports-themed food and beverage products, built around its signature product: a line of sports drinks. Gatorade is currently manufactured by PepsiCo, distributed in over 80 countries. The beverage was first developed in 1965 by researchers at the University of Florida, to replenish the combination of water, carbohydrates, and electrolytes that the school's student-athletes lost during rigorous athletic competitions. Its name was derived from the collective nickname of the university's athletic teams, "the Gators".
The OC Marathon is an annual marathon held in early May. More than 22,000 runners participate in the marathon, half marathon, Wahoo’s OC 5K and Kids Run the OC. Additionally, thousands of spectators line the course, the start line in front of the Newport Beach Marriott and finish line at OC Fair and Event Center, while an additional 30,000 attend the two-day Health & Fitness Expo which showcases national brands and state of the art footwear and training technology.
