The Washington Mystics is a professional basketball team based in Washington, D.C., playing in the Eastern Conference in the Women's National Basketball Association . The team was founded prior to the 1998 season. The team is owned by Monumental Sports & Entertainment , who also owns the Mystics' NBA counterpart, the Washington Wizards. Sheila C. Johnson, co-founder of BET and ex-wife of Charlotte Sting owner Robert L. Johnson, is the managing partner.

(August 23, 2016) – Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) today announced a multi-year Legacy Partnership with Giant Food as the exclusive grocery partner of the Washington Capitals, Mystics, Wizards and Verizon Center. The Legacy Partnership with Giant supports and helps develop programs that will further the grocer’s local community objectives of hunger relief, improving the lives of children and building healthier communities. As part of the partnership, Giant also becomes the presenting partner of the Capitals and Wizards Kids Clubs and Verizon Center’s Family Show series.
