As of October 2011, the chain operates 207 stores in eight Southern states: North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. Harris Teeter is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Charlotte-based Ruddick Corporation (NYSE: RDK). The current president of Harris Teeter is Fred J. Morganthall II. Supermarket News ranked Harris Teeter No. 34 in the 2010 "Top 75 North American Food Retailers" based on 2009 fiscal year sales of $2.92 billion.
