Photo: Wayne Taylor <p>One-day cricket still has an important place in the cricket world despite the increasing popularity of the T20 format, says Glenn Maxwell.<p>The all-rounder was at the MCG on Wednesday where his T20 club the Melbourne Stars announced Optus as their new major sponsor.<p>Previous corporate partner Dick Smith Electronics went into administration earlier this week.<p>Australia's one-day series against India begins on January 12 in Perth.<p> Advertisement <p>"I think it's as strong as ever, the one-day game. It's exciting to play and exciting to be a part of," Maxwell said.<p>The 27-year-old Victorian played down the impact of hard-hitting BBL-style batting on the 50-over game, saying he was not expecting scores to increase.<p>"I think the rule of having five out in the last 10 overs will bring it back to a little bit more normality, and still see around 300 be a pretty good score in one-day cricket," he said.<p>Maxwell he was enjoying watching BBL cricketers playing more inventive shots.<p>The Stars faced a desperate scramble to secure financial backing after their previous corporate partner collapsed.<p>The Optus logo was being painted onto the MCG pitch and players wore jerseys with their new sponsors' name patched over the old.<p>The Stars will play the Hobart Hurricanes at the 'G on Wednesday night.<p>Stars head Clint Cooper said it had been an extraordinary 36 hours for his club, after the high of the team's win in front of a record crowd of more than 80,000 at the weekend.
