A- A+It's not everyday you see a NASCAR team getting involved in an effort to get all the air out of the aerosol spray cans. In fact, we don't remember ever seeing a NASCAR team doing such a thing. Until now, that is.Richard Childress Racing it plans to practice in the off-season by making sure aerosol spray cans are emptied and recycled. The effort is being coordinated with the help of Safety-Kleen, a recycling and re-refining solutions provider.Don't go thinking though that the Richard Childress Racing management and crew chiefs will line up, pick a can and start squeezing it until everything comes out. The team will use a new drain system developed by Justrite Manufacturing."We're committed to protecting the environment, and Safety-Kleen handles everything for us that needs specialized management," Bill Patterson, vice president for Richard Childress Racing said about the unlikely endeavor. "They take care of all of the hard stuff - the things no one wants getting into the environment, like oil, paint, solvents and unused fuel. With Safety-Kleen, we know these materials will be properly managed." For the record, getting rid of aerosol cans without emptying them is not illegal, but can damage the environment. Apparently though, Safety-Kleen has some type of inside knowledge about a possible regulation on the matter. As any good business, it plans ahead as a consequence.“We chose to start with the Childress team because we have been recycling their oil and solvents for years," Eric Zimmer, Safety-Kleen said, revealing the reasons behind the collaboration."Richard and his team lead the way on the track and off, so it makes perfect sense that they are the first team to address this issue."
