Morikawa has won the Sunnehanna Amateur, Trans-Mississippi Amateur, and the Western Junior. Morikawa graduated from La Cañada High School. In 2015, he began playing collegiate golf at University of California, Berkeley.[4] In May 2018, Morikawa spent 3 weeks as the top-ranked golfer in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
