Union Bank of CA last week inked a two-year deal with the Chargers to continue as the team's official bank. Union Bank also becomes presenting sponsor of one Chargers home game each year, as well as a sponsor of the team's "Power Lunch" series, where season-ticket holders are invited to the team's training facility for business lunches and Q&A sessions with team personnel such as President Dean Spanos, GM John Butler and coach Marty Schottenheimer. An official partner since '00, Union Bank over the past two years has promoted the sponsorship using humorous TV, print and billboard ads, where bank customers interact with Chargers players and cheerleaders. The bank also offers a Chargers Power Pack Checking account promo to lure new accounts. Chargers VP & CMO Ken Derrett, who called the deal a significant sponsorship for the team, told THE DAILY, "The core part of the deal will be the continued use of the intellectual property from the Chargers in their creatives. That is the ultimate compliment, when a partner uses your players in their brand creatives." The Chargers are in talks with additional presenting sponsors for home games, with a formal announcement expected soon (THE DAILY).
