In 1998, it became an independent entity that receives no funding from the state of Kansas. The hospital is affiliated with the University of Kansas Medical Center, which comprises the schools of medicine, nursing and allied health. In 2006, the hospital celebrated 100 years of providing care. The University of Kansas Hospital combines education, research and patient care. Physicians represent more than 200 specialties.

The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. They are a member of the Western Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Originally named the Dallas Texans, the club was founded by Lamar Hunt in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team relocated to Kansas City and assumed their current name. They joined the NFL during the AFL–NFL merger of 1970.
