It commenced operations on 5 April 2012, from Venice Marco Polo Airport. The name "Volotea" originates from the Spanish verb "revolotear," meaning "to fly around."

As the official carrier of the team, who currently sit fourth in France’s Ligue 1, Volotea will receive branding across FC Nantes’ various platforms, including around the club’s Beaujoire stadium, in official communications and online.
