We know our firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than to die in the line of duty. The Fire Service Psychology Association (FSPA) provides psychological services, courses, and training to fire departments across the country to alleviate the situation of our firefighters. In 2023, our mission at FSPA is to train more volunteer firefighters--who make up 70% of firefighters in the U.S--to give them knowledge and skills to maintain psychological resilience.

FSPA is a team of psychologists, researchers, and fire service experts, and we are propelled by the urgency of this situation to act and bring much-need interventions to our fire departments.

Our firefighters’ nature of work, their 24/7 lifestyles, and their near-death experiences take a toll on their mental health which ripple out to their social and family lives. We believe that through firefighter-specific training and intervention, we can promote a healthier inner self and a happier social life for each of our ever-reliable firefighters.
