Folklight Film Club is community and values focused independent film company. Local community members attend events that keep them connected to the making of a narrative feature film that’s inspired by their personal stories and identities.

Folklight Film Club aims to refocus the industry on storytelling’s original purpose as a worldwide, prehistoric tradition – bringing communities closer together through our stories, our values, our wisdom, and quality time spent together.

Our first feature film shoots May/June 2019 and focuses on older women, our Latinx community, and our LGBTQ+ community in Sonoma County. Director Michael Berry's debut feature starred Ed Harris, Michael Peña, Eva Longoria, and Oscar nominee Amy Madigan and was distributed by Magnolia Pictures.

Concurrently, a documentary film team who won their category at Cannes this past year - Jessica Congdon & Eric Holland - is following us through 2020 and making a documentary TV series about Folklight's effort towards creating this new, community-centered film movement.

Our activities over the next two years include the aforementioned narrative feature and documentary TV series, the original soundtrack for the film, nine member events that keep members connected throughout the filmmaking process, and developing a national digital street team committed to taking five practical action steps per week from their device.

We plan to open chapters of Folklight Film Club in communities nationwide.

Folklight Film Club is a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
