The International Sailing Federation is recognised by the International Olympic Committee as the world governing body for the sport of sailing. Sailing is a very diverse primarily because it is equipment based sport with boats built for a wide range of purposes. Competitive sailing takes place in many different types of boats including dinghies, windsurfers, multihulls, yachts, kitesurfing and radio controlled sailing boats as equipment.
