Premios Tejano Mundial is an award presented by the Tejano Music Recording Academy, a non-profit organization to recognize achievements in the Tejano Music industry. Premios Tejano Mundial recognizes those who create and perform Tejano music. Idols, newcomers, and “all in between” are honored. The ceremony is held annually.

For the inaugural event, the nominees and winners for all categories were submitted and determined by fan interaction based on specific qualifications. Thereafter, the Tejano Music Recording Academy members submit the nominees based on specified qualifications for all categories and determine the winners except for Entertainer of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Social Artist of the Year, and Video of the Year. Entertainer of the Year, New Artist of the Year, and Social Artist of the Yea are fan-based categories while the Video of the Year is selected by a committee.

The categories recognize the creators such as Composer, Producer, and Engineer as well as the Artists. “Canción del Año” are awarded across different genres of Tejano music. “Album del Año” is awarded for a compilation of Tejano music.

Nuestro Raices Lifetime Achievement Awards will be bestowed to performers and media personalities who have made contributions of outstanding significance to Tejano Music.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the decision was made to present the inaugural Premios Tejano Mundial virtual “out of abundance of caution.” The event was pre-recorded but seen via “live streaming” across the globe on the Tejano 360 Network website. This year, the awards show will be "live stream" on Tejano 360+ apps (via Google Play/Apple iOS) and Roku. Roku is being featured as research has determined that TV OTTs are more widely used for viewing entertainment.

Premios Tejano Mundial features a full production. Sound and LED lighting are delivered by professionals currently providing such to performers like George Strait and Reik. A unique production set is provided to each performing artist.
