My name is MaryJane Quinn, and I am reaching out from the SPC Matthew Pollini Memorial Fund (volunteer), an organization dedicated to helping first responders, veterans, and victims of natural/man-made disasters. We are currently preparing for our Annual Ruck March being held in Dracut, Massachusetts in September. Our theme for this ruck march is to remember soldiers, like SPC Matthew Pollini, we lost in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we are looking to set our goal at a pretty hefty objective of ten thousand dollars from this event, and the reason for this is because we are seeing an influx of individuals needing help due to Covid-19.
The mission of the SPC Matthew Pollini fund is: is to assist victims of natural and man-made disasters, and to assist military members and first responders that have been seriously affected by occupational hazards. Studies show 13 out of every 100,000 people die by suicide in the general population – that number increases to 17 out of 100,000 for police officers. Studies show nationally 22 soldiers/veteran commit suicide every day. In 2015 a blizzard shut down the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority for the day on Jan. 27. Boston saw 24.6 inches of snow from the storm, while Worcester received 34.5 inches. Many people missed work, found themselves with no heat, water, and food insecurity due to food spoilage. A series of fires and gas explosions tore through Lawrence, North Andover and Andover on Sept. 13, a disaster that claimed the life of a teenager. There is definite need for this organization. We try to do everything and anything to relieve the stress these individuals go through.
The SPC Matthew Pollini Memorial Fund has helped many people here in Massachusetts. The Pollini Fund has assisted: Hurricane Sandy victims, Boston One Fund, Families of the Beacon Street Firefighters that lost their lives, Bourne Police Officer Jared MacDonald Fund, Salvation Army: East Coast Flood victims in South Carolina, 60 Families of Cambridge fire, Fallen Watertown Firefigher Toscano Family Fund, Army SGT Steve Mckenna and family, Hurricane Harvey victims, Hurricane Maria victims in Puerto Rico, the LaRocque Family of Tewksbury- victims of Las Vegas Massacre. The amount of people we try to assist in Massachusetts is ever growing, we do try and stay within the commonwealth as we want to proactively play a part in community impact, but if the need calls we do go outside the borders. However, we cannot do any of this without sponsorship. Which, is why I am reaching out to this organization, an organization that has made huge efforts themselves to give back to the community. By giving to this Ruck March in September, you would genuinely be changing the lives of a group of people who are losing hope. Some are losing their will to live, some have lost everything, and this would help us help them.
