CleanPowerSF is the City and County of San Francisco’s Community Choice Aggregation program, administered by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and monitored by the San Francisco Local Agency Formation Commission , which is chaired by Supervisor David Campos. The purpose of the program is to significantly increase the amount of energy from local renewable sources supplied to the San Francisco electrical grid in order to meet and eventually exceed California's Renewable Portfolio Standard laws which require California electricity corporations to expand their renewable portfolio by 1% each year until reaching 20% in 2010 and 33% in 2020. The goal of CleanPowerSF is to ensure that 51% of San Francisco's electricity is supplied through local clean and renewable electricity generation within its first decade of operation. San Francisco’s current electrical supplier, Pacific Gas & Electric , has to date been unable to meet California RPS requirements on schedule. After CleanPowerSF's launch , San Francisco residents and businesses will have the choice to participate in the program or revert back to PG&E's energy generation. CleanPowerSF is the second CCA program to be implemented in California, the first being Marin Clean Energy in Marin County. read more
