Since March 1, 1922, People’s Credit Union has been committed to our members and the communities we serve.

Their story began when seven men, all Newport County residents working at the U.S. Naval Torpedo station in Newport, formed what is now People’s Credit Union, one of the first 200 Credit Unions in the entire United States. Those seven men saw the need for a credit union, a not-for-profit, financial cooperative owned by its members, to serve the working men and women of Aquidneck Island. People’s Credit Union’s first office was established on Thames Street in Newport.

Now headquartered in Middletown, Rhode Island, with branches in Bristol, Newport, North Kingstown, Portsmouth and Bristol, People’s is proud to have more than 35,000 members and over $400 million in assets. Under the leadership of Ellen Ford, the Credit Union's President & CEO, People's is continuting to look forward to the future by providing banking solutions for your financial success.
