Hawaiian Tropic is a brand of suntan lotion sold around the world, but more widely available in the United States. The Company was founded by Ron Rice in 1969. With a $500.00 loan from his Father, he mixed the first batch of Natural Suncare Product in a metal trash can and bottled it from his home garage. After rapid success, he became the largest private manufacturer of sun care products in the United States until being acquired in May 2007 by Playtex Products, Inc. which when combined with Playtex's other brand of sun care, Banana Boat, made Playtex the largest manufacturer of sun care products in the Western Hemisphere. Shortly thereafter, Playtex Products was purchased by Energizer Holdings Inc. in a deal valued at $1.9 billion.[1]
The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Road to Healthy Skin Tour, Presented by Rite Aid, is making its annual cross-country journey this summer, kicking off on May 27. The Tour works with local volunteer dermatologists who provide quick, easy and potentially life-saving FREE full-body skin cancer screenings in the 38-foot RV, which is equipped with two private exam rooms. This year’s Tour brings free skin cancer screenings to communities in 17 states and the District of Columbia, making stops at more than 50 Rite Aid stores. The Tour also provides information about skin cancer prevention and sun protection. More than 18,000 people have received free screenings since the Tour began in 2008. To date, more than 7,000 suspected skin cancers and precancers have been detected, including 324 suspected melanomas, the deadliest form of skin cancer.
